This is Bridget here blogging from the states, while Ryan is still at Tall Pines. With the end of October, I returned a bit earlier, while Ryan is sticking it out a while longer.
Returning to the states was a little tough - I wasn't quite ready to leave (sound familiar?) And the reality of civilization hit me like a freight train this year. I found myself missing the quiet and that feeling of tranquility that has become a staple of life up there- you know it if you've been there. Instead I was feeling overstimulated from lights and sound and traffic etc. And not to mention all the paperwork that awaited me to catch up while settling in a new place.
It is a reminder of the treasure that Tall Pines is as an escape and retreat. Like you, I'll have to wait til next year to feel that again...but we still have more blogging and exciting things to share in the months ahead.
October was such a fun month- with mild air temps (for Canada), and water temps finally getting back into the 50's fish were quite interactive. I may have won the smallest fish leaderboard in every category, but we had a ball. Here's a taste of some of the action on the water:
And some of the action off the water:
Camplife from the last month...
In the fall, this is the morning view- the moon still vivid after daybreak!
But I had to leave, and I also knew Ryan was ready for some hard-core fishing; I enjoyed being out on the water but for shorter stretches due to the colder temps.
So "What is Ryan up to now?" you may ask. Well "coincidentally" hours after I left, famous buddy Melon arrived at Tall Pines. So this is what happens after the wifey leaves and you're left with Two Guys & a Boat:
But then when that buddy leaves, one can turn to neighbor and friend Dave to fill that boat seat:
Now, there were so many pics he sent- not exactly sure which is which, but I do know these two guys & a boat have caught and released several beautiful, thick, healthy fall muskie, launching on different waters of the Cedar River Watershed. One day they did Cliff, one day Perrault, and still have plans to fish Cedar as well. Ryan caught his personal best muskie, a 43", and had a 42" on the same day! They had one outing were they boated 5 muskie in 2 hours... sounds like a great time!
This bonus walleye was caught on an 11" muskie tube:
Wow- How exciting! And equally exciting is that we have set in motion some of those projects that have been on our wish list since we became hosts in '19. Thanks so much to Dan from Dan Rob Land Improvement for making this happen! We'll have more details in the annual holiday newsletter, but here's a peak at what land improvements we're up to:
To the married guys-Are you an example of Two Guys & a Boat? Have you been off on that road trip with a buddy, waving good-bye to your wife- grateful she supports your soul's craving for some Two Guys & a Boat kind of time. Ladies- are you that wife who encourages your man have that week away? Sacrificing- yet gaining so much- by holding down the fort at home. Well I can tell you ladies- from witnessing myself- these men think the world of you and speak so highly of you when they are with us. They ask me in the gift shop what I think you would like, they look forward to seeing you when they return (refreshed, even though they may need a long shower!). And it all goes to show us that even when you may be apart from your loved one, you are still engaged in an active way to show how much you love one another. Absence does make the heart grow fonder. There's just something about Two Guys & a Boat.
Look in your email inbox for the annual holiday newsletter to come out shortly after Thanksgiving! We'll have a season recap, lots up updates, final leaderboard results, and details of more camp improvements. In the meantime we are now taking bookings for 2025. Thinking of our veterans and military on this upcoming Veterans Day. And wishing all our Tall Pines anglers a happy Thanksgiving. We all have much to give thanks to God and each other for.
